Another 30% is given over to green space making it one of the cleanest and greenest cities in Europe. As well as being a center for design and fashion, Stockholm also offers a rich historic experience, unique architecture and world class attractions. Here is sample itinerary for visiting Stockholm for three days and its must see attractions.

Day One: Central Attractions and the Old Town
Located in Djurgarden are two of Stockholm`s major attractions. The Vasa Museum (closest subway is Karlaplan), showcases a 17th century warship, the only one of its kind in the world. The ship sank in 1628 when it was on its maiden voyage and wasn`t salvaged for 333 years. The museum tells the story of the ship, its preservation and the lives of those on board. Located fairly nearby is The Skansen Open Air Museum and Zoo (nearest Subway is T-Centralen Station) which offers visitors a unique museum experience. Highlights include a tour through Sweden`s medieval history and this is the best place to understand the culture and traditions of the Swedes.

After lunch, head to the Old Town, known as Gamla Stan, where visitors can experience historic Stockholm. The first thing to do here is take a visit to the Royal Palace which is open to the public and houses no less than five museums. Now it`s time to chill out and wander around Gamla Stan, one of the most atmospheric and well preserved medieval towns in Europe. Let afternoon ease you into evening by sampling some of Stockholm`s best loved bars.

Day Two: Drottningholm Palace and Shopping
Drottningholm Palace is one of the major attractions in Stockholm as well as being a World Heritage Site. Slightly out of the centre it is accessible by train and bus, by bus alone or by boat which is the only real way to reach this magnificent palace. Ideally you`d want an entire day for the splendid 15th century palace and gardens, but if you are only in Stockholm for three days then a half day will suffice.

Fashion and Sweden go hand in hand and the best place to catch up with the latest Scandinavian trends is along Drottninggatan in Norrmalm. Here you will find a number of Swedish and international brands.

Day Three:The Archipelago
Sadly many people visit Stockholm and don`t make it out to the far reaching islands. It`s worth dedicating a day to this and there are many boat tours available to take you to the highlights. Some tours include lunch so you can really make a day of it.

If you have anytime leftover, the surrounding areas deserve to be explored, many visitors find car rental such 121carhire.com is a great way to do this. Highlights include the historic town of Uppsala to the north, which boasts one of the oldest universities in the world and Sigtuna, Sweden`s first town.Collinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924290376537959738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921990676134143460.post-9236771184249537222012-04-01T21:34:00.005-07:002012-04-02T19:35:21.496-07:00Five Must See St. Patrick's Day Parades - Guest Post<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">If you're looking for a great place to watch a parade this Saint Patrick's Day, you're in luck. With more than 100 regional celebrations held across the United States, you don't have to go to Ireland to enjoy a great parade, a festive party and some local brew.

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Boston:
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">Boston was the first city to host a St. Patrick's Day parade way back in 1737 before the Declaration of Independence. Today, more than 850,000 people gather to see the famous parade that started it all. The festivities begin several days before with performances from hometown rockers, including the Dropkick Murphys. As the crowds gather to watch the bagpipers, bands and parade floats, it's a perfect time to stop by Irish Village, Mr. Dooley's and many other Irish pubs located along the parade route. Travel Ideas: 3 Day Itinerary To Boston.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">New York City:
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">With its large Irish population, New York City is one of the best places to go for St. Patrick's Day. The five-hour parade begins at 44th Street and continues up 5th Avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park before reaching the end of the route at 86th Street. The festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 4:30 p.m. After enjoying authentic soft pretzels, head over to Connolly's Pub & Restaurant or Langan's for traditional Irish fare and live music.
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: large;">Chicago:
<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">You know a city takes St. Patty's Day seriously when they add large amounts of eco-friendly green dye to the local river. Update 2018: Earlier this year we took same exact trip but since kids were little older we skipped aquarium and replaced it with The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. It was such a learning experience, not just for kids but for us adults too. As kids got so much interested in learning about president, we bought them Passport to Presidential Libraries where they got to learn about other presidential libraries and they can get all the pages stamped as they visit other libraries. We are working on planning our other trips to these libraries now.

Since kids were already in this exploration mode, I took opportunity to get them reading little more about presidents. Hence I bought this fun coloring book about presidents. It turns out to be big hit for both kids.
It has wide variety of places to visit and things to do, from sea wall to suspension bridge. From aquarium to Science world. Travel Ideas: Weekend Getaway To Seattle

Below is a suggested 1, 2 and 3 day itinerary for visiting Vancouver and things to do.

Day 1:

Stanley Park is gem of Vancouver. If there is not enough time on your Vancouver vacation then one thing you should do is spend time at Stanley park. Cycle, stroll or drive along the 10km long Stanley Park Sea Wall. There is free hop-on-hop-off shuttle available to reach different attractions of the park. Every moment and location in this park provides with magnificent views of city, mountains, ocean and forests. There is a very beautiful outdoor swimming pool in Stanley Park. Kids can play in small kiddie pool and adults can enjoy the beautiful sunset from the bigger pool.

Weather you are travelling with young kids or by yourself visit North America's one of the top 5 aquarium. Vancouver Aquarium and Marine Science Center. It is located inside Stanley Park.

Another place to visit in Vancouver is Gastown. It is Vancouver's oldest neighborhood. Charming cobbled stone streets , old Victorian style architecture, unique stores and restaurants are only a quick walk from Downtown. It also houses world's oldest Steam Powered Clock and it is city's most photographed attraction.

Day 2:

Only 20 minutes outside of Vancouver downtown is this amazing suspension bridge. 70 meter above the ground and little shaky, Capillano Suspension Bridge is located in middle of lush rain forests above Capillano River. It is breath-taking experience to walk over this bridge. The guided tours (Covered in the ticket price) offers the interesting history of the park and story behind the totem poles. We felt it was little pricey though.

There is another similar suspension bridge is Lynn Canyon. It is not that famous but it is free.

Few miles further down from Capillano Suspension Bridge is Grouse Mountain. This is the place to get the best view of the city from top. You can either hike or take a tram to go to the top. One the way you can see the most beautiful views of the city you can ever imagine. There is a habitat for orphaned grizzly bears and gray wolves on the mountain as well. Do check at the booking office at the summit to make sure restaurants at the top are not closed due to any event.

Visit Punjabi Market in Vancouver. It is also known as Little India. This unique shopping district of Vancouver smells, sounds and tastes like India. Unique aroma of Exotic Indian food will tantalize your taste buds. Trip to Vancouver will not be complete without trying some of this food.

Main Street,Vancouver, BC V5X 3H1 Canada

Day 3:

Science World is a center for discovering science in a very fun and interactive way. As must do activity for young kids. And even as a adult you would see science and learn in a different light here.

In the afternoon treat yourself to a relaxed English Style Tea At the Castle in fairmont hotel.

Well this is a very packed itinerary and does not leave much time for shopping in Vancouver. But you need to squeeze in some street shopping on Robson Street or take a short ferry ride to Granville Island for lots of shopping under single roof.

While travelling outside of US I do prefer to purchase travel insurance. I will not promote any specific company or product here, but there are respectable companies out there in Travel Insurance Space.Collinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924290376537959738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921990676134143460.post-31473834729451357072011-05-13T21:24:00.002-07:002022-08-01T19:21:55.622-07:00A Field Trip And a Weekend Gateway Near Austin
In less than an hour drive from Austin, in beautiful hill country there is quite little town of Marble Falls. So keeping with the tradition of Thanksgiving here are some ideas to spend vacation with family on Thanksgiving day this year.

I have covered different regions of USA as well as different kind of getaways for people of different taste.

1. New York City Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Also knows as longest running Broadway show Macy's Thanksgiving Parade is major Thanksgiving attraction in NY as well as in USA. This parade was started by Macy's employees mainly 1st generation immigrants in 1924 for the first time and named Macy's Christmas Parade. But eventually name changed to Thanksgiving parade. It is a very magical experience.
If your schedule permits and you are staying for few more days in NY do not forget to visit Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Rockefeller Center. Travel Ideas: Weekend Getaway To Niagara Falls

2. Plymouth Plantation - Thanksgiving like pilgrims

How about celebrating Thanksgiving like pilgrims celebrated it. Plymouth Plantation is located in the beautiful seaside community of Plymouth, Massachusetts. It provides same experience of spending an evening with pilgrims. You can plan just a dinner, or stay longer for other fun activities in this beautiful community. You can explore the recreation of 1627 English Village by the sea side or visit many exhibits at the location.

3. Amish style thanksgiving in a bed and breakfast inn

4. German Style Christmas Market and Christmas Tree Lighting

Well Chicago has its own charm as well when it comes to Thanksgiving and Christmas. It may not be as famous as Macy's Thanksgiving Parade yet, it is not any less charming.

Visit their German Style Christmas Market that starts on Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas. Feels like you are in one of those charming little European towns.

There are lots of other fun events going on at this market for kids as well as for adults.
At the same time you can also see Chicago's Christmas Tree Lightning Ceremony as well.

Both of these wonders are only a day trip or at most a week-end getaway from some of the major USA cities like Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Before Hoover Dam was built river Colorado was this wild thing that brought floods every year and was not much useful. Taming River Colorado with Hoover Dam was a big feat. It is still the biggest dam in whole world. There are couple of ways to explore the dam. You can take a tour package for a day trip to Hoover Dam from Las Vegas or Phoenix. Or you can drive to Hoover Dam which is located about 30 miles from Las Vegas on Arizona and Nevada border.

Once at the Dam you can take the Hoover Dam Discovery Tour or the Power Plant tour provided by the Hoover Dam Visitor Center. BTW if you scared of heights you may not want to look over from the road at the Dam.

While at Hoover Dam you may also want to check out Lake Mead. It is largest water reservoir in United States. It was formed by water from Hoover Dam. It is famous for its water activities.

Moving on to the one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, powerful and inspiring Grand Canyon. There are one day tour packages available covering Hoover Dam as well as Grand Canyon. But I found them little too hectic and did not provide proper chance to explore Grand Canyon for all it has to offer.

If your schedule permits do take multi day tour packages. If you do want to explore grand canyon on your own, you may plan to stay at Grand Canyon. There are nice camping grounds both at south rim and north rim. Apart from camping ground, there are 7 different lodging facilities inside the Grand Canyon Park. They range anywhere from trailer park to very sophisticated lodges.

Once inside the park, you can drive your own vehicle or use the shuttle bus provided by the park at no cost There are various shuttle buses covering various view points, hotels, restaurants, gift shops, trails and scenic drives etc. There are hop-on-hop-off services and you can enjoy the park at your leisure.
Another beautiful way to explore the Grand Canyon is via Grand Canyon Railway. If you enjoy water activities do not forget rafting inside the grand canyon. There are many service providers in the area providing rafting, air tours, hiking etc.

A relatively newly added attraction to explore grand canyon is the grand canyon sky walk. Name itself causes goosebumps. This 4825 feet high glass platform lets us view grand canyon in a very new way.

Collinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924290376537959738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921990676134143460.post-61652860436160444172009-09-25T19:03:00.001-07:002022-08-01T19:22:49.661-07:00Fall Colors in TexasWho would think of Fall Colors when they think of Texas. Usually Lost Maples area starts changing color between early October through mid-November. Its bright red foliage is comparable with that of New England fall foliage.
Sabinal river passes through the park and its clear water flowing over the white limestone looks very beautiful. There are many miles of wooded hiking trails along the river and every mile is worth the effort. Fishing is free in all Texas State Parks. Once you have paid park entrance fee, you do not need any license or do not need to pay any fishing fees. You can also purchase Texas State Park Pass and entry is free to all State Parks in Texas.

One thing though, since this park is not very huge it gets very crowded during fall. So get there very early. Park has only 250 parking spots. So if your schedule permits, visit Lost Maples Natural Area during the week days. There are very beautiful cabins available for rent in the surrounding area for overnight stay.

Garner State Park only 45 miles from Lost Maples Park and there also you will find many lodging options. You may decide to stay at Garner State Park and drive to Lost Maples in early morning. There is another very beautiful river Frio flowing through Garner State Park. That is also so clean that you can see the bottom of the river. Garner State Park is most famous park in Texas for weekend stay and park has amazing view of Texas Hill Country.
Collinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924290376537959738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921990676134143460.post-19898385970622016572009-09-11T19:48:00.000-07:002022-08-12T13:09:07.303-07:00Fun Water Activity Around Austin
There is no shortage of fun water activities for kids and families in and around Austin.
2. Natural Bridge Caverns

Trip down to Natural Bridge Caverns is fun side trip from austin. It is only hour and half drive south from Austin on Hwy 35. They are probably the most beautiful caverns in Texas. There are guided laid back tours as well as adventure tours available.

3. Natural Bridge Safari

You will need whole day to visit Natural Bridge Caverns and Natural Bridge Safari. They are right next to each other. Natural Bridge Wild Life Ranch. It is like African safari but in Texas. You can pick-up animal feed at the ticket counter and drive leisurely in your car. Roll down the windows and feed the animals from your own hands. There are giraffes, lamas, zebras, deers, ostrich etc. You cannot feed giraffe though. There is a small petting zoo for little children as well. This will be experience that whole family will cherish forever.

4. Hamilton Pool and Krause Spring:

Only about 45 minutes drive from Austin on Hwy 71 west, is this beautiful oasis called Hamilton Pool and Krause Spring. Hamilton Pool is a natural water hole and 50 feet tall waterfall surrounded by lime stone canyons and tall Cyprus trees. Read more about Hamilton pool at Travel Ideas: Hamilton Pool

Kruase Spring is a natural water hole and overnight camping area. Year round water temperature here is only 70 F. Covered with very old and tall Cyprus trees and very interesting rock formations. Water passes through these formations and humans can pass though them as well. It is a very beautiful tropical oasis just outside Austin.

Both these water holes are in the same area and can be visited on same day.

5. Schlitterbahn Water Park Resort

Usually I would not make a note of a water park. But Schitterbahn is different. Created from river Guadalupe, part of it uses natural water flow and untreated water. While some rides uses treated water. It has been voted best water park of the country year after year. They also have rooms available on site for overnight stay. Kids will not want to come back from Schitterbahn. It is so much fun.

6. Sea World San Antonio

There are only three locations in USA with Sea World. One of them is only two hours drive south from Austin, in San Antonio. It is experience of a lifetime. Encounter with Dolphins , shows of Beluga Whales, penguins, walrus and above all Shamu the killer whale all under single roof. Their 4D theater is another hair raising experience.

7. San Antonio

San Antonio is called "The Alamo City". Alamo is the church where first decisive battle for Texas Independence was fought. It is only 2 hours south from Austin. Apart from Alamo the another very interesting thing about San Antonio is its River Walk. Mainly at night it create very magical environment. Take a romantic dinner on River Walk by river side at night. There are so many amazing museums and architectural buildings to visit as well. You can visit two top attractions of San Antonio (Alamo and River Walk) in a single day, but for a more leisurely vacation plan a week-end getaway.

6. Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock

Settled by Germans in early 1800s, Fredericksburg still maintains its German Flavor and is full of history. You can make quick day trip or stay in one of the many charming bed and breakfast inns for the week-end. Tour wineries and vineyards. Enjoy the wild flower trails and peach farms. Either way you will have a enchanting experience. It is only two hours drive from Austin.

30 minutes drive from Fredericksburg is fun place for camping and hiking. Enchanted Rock is a very interesting rock structure created from earth quake. Parking is limited here. So do call before leaving.
Hamilton Pool is a well kept secret. Only 30 minutes drive outside of Austin is this very beautiful natural water hole. Perfect getaway for a lazy summer weekend. Travel Ideas: Austin

This water hole was created by natural moving and erosion of stones. Only thirteen miles drive inside from Hwy 71 west on FM 3238 (Hamilton Pool Road) takes you this oasis covered will tall trees and rocky trails. At the end of only a quarter mile trail you will come face to face with sparkling emerald green water and 50 feet tall water fall.

There is another longer trail which passes from behind the water fall and underneath the mountain, creating a Vail of waterfall in front of you. Reminds me of "Behind The Falls Adventure at Niagara Falls". Much smaller in size of course. But who would have thought of such an oasis hidden inside caverns and surrounded with tall trees only such a short drive outside of Austin.

Couple of things to keep in mind though. Pets are not allowed in the water hole area or in the parking lot. Also there is no night camping or cooking is allowed. Only Picnicking, hiking and swimming is allowed. The beach is little sandy and little bit pebbly and smaller compared to the water hole. So at some point it feels little crowded. Once on the trail there is no drinking water or restrooms either and park closes after 5:30 PM daily. When bacteria level is high, swimming is
also not allowed.

Another such very beautiful water hole is only a short drive away from Hamilton Pool is Krause Spring. Travel Ideas:Krause SpringsCollinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924290376537959738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921990676134143460.post-8043578571100110672009-08-07T20:25:00.000-07:002011-10-07T01:15:34.814-07:00Trip To Boston - 3 Day ItineraryWhat comes to mind when you think of Boston. Boston Marathon, Harvard and MIT , Boston Cream Pie, Boston Tea Party or one of the most beautiful area to see fall colors. Boston is a popular destination for so many reasons. Boston's historical landmarks, its metropolitan culture , science and children's museum, aquarium makes it perfect place for a family getaway.Boston has things to do and see for every taste. Travel Ideas: Fall Colors

Here is a suggested 3 day itinerary and travel ideas for trip to Boston.

Day 1:

One day one of your trip to Boston, visit Freedom Trail. If you are looking for things to do with kids then visiting different stops on Freedom Trail is perfect for them to learn American history. There are guided tours available for Freedom Trail that will take you through a brief visit to each of the monument and you can also find free trail maps in your hotel lobbies for a self guided self paced tour. You can also decide to spend more time at places like Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum or Old North Church to know in more detail.

Boston Harbor Walk is connecting different neighborhoods across Boston Harbor. There was a big cleaning and re-invigorating effort for Boston Harbor in 60's giving Boston Harbor Walk it current form. From north to south and east to west there are so many exciting places to explore with different character and tempo. You can walk, bike, job, cruise or just explore waterfront along the Harbor walk. It is a fun experience.

Looking for some Boston style night life or things to do at night? Check out Wally's Jazz Cafe in Boston's Back Bay area. It is oldest family owned and operated Jazz Club. Live Jazz performances by well known artists as well as students start at 9:00 PM every day. And it is not very pricey either.
427 Massachusetts Ave, Boston, MA 02118

"Good Life" is another very interesting Lounge in Boston Downtown. Very sleek and European style. It is fun hangout place for young and sophisticates.
28 Kingston St, Downtown Crossing, Boston, MA 02111

Day 2:

Take a short drive out to Cambridge and visit MIT University. They have to offer some outstanding research facilities and museums and they are open to visitors. There are guided and self guided tours available of the campus as well. And do not forget the beautiful view of Boston downtown from MIT campus.

Weather you are Rex Sox fan or not or weather you are interested in Baseball or not, do visit America's oldest and in use Major League Baseball Park Fenway Park. It is a unique Baseball park and a very cosy family friend experience.

Day 3:

Boston Harbor Island Recreational Area is collection of 34 islands. Take a quick ferry to any one or more of these islands from Boston and spend a day picnicking, hiking lush trails, exploring rich history and wildlife. This area kind of reminds me of Golden Gate National Park in San Francisco.

Visit Faneuilhall Market Place also known as Quincy Market for true Boston style Shopping and Dinning experience. Always there are very interesting and fun event going on in this market place. Paved streets and street performers give it a very unique feel. It is really fun for whole family.
